What is “positive reinforcement” training?
Positive reinforcement training means that we are giving our dogs a reward for behavior that we like or ask for. This reward can be anything that the dog really likes (treats or toys for example). Rewards make our dogs more likely to repeat behaviors, making it the best way to change or teach new behavior. You have likely experienced this many times already! If you ask your dog to sit every night before putting their food bowl down, they are learning that a “sit” works. It gives them access to something that they really want (in this case, food)! They will be quicker to offer that sit for you in the future. This type of reward based training is exactly like humans getting paid to go to work. Imagine if your boss expected you to work for free! There are TONS of resources to back up the science behind this method. Feel free to send me an email if you’d like to learn more about why this method is the most effective.
What are the benefits of virtual dog training?
Virtual training has so many benefits over traditional in-person training. Some of the benefits include:
An extremely flexible training schedule to fit your needs.
Maintaining your privacy and routine. You don’t need to worry about tidying up or disrupting your normal schedule to have a visitor in your home.
Fewer distractions for your dog (no stranger with a treat pouch!) and they will be in a familiar environment with familiar people meaning that they’ll be able to learn more quickly and comfortably.
Access to a certified professional dog trainer schooled in positive reinforcement methods regardless of where you live.
Is virtual training as effective as in-person training?
Yes! You will receive the exact same guidance and instruction as you would during an in-person session. My goal is to help YOU learn how to work with your dog to achieve your goals. I don’t need to be in the room with you and your dog to help you resolve unwanted behavior or teach new concepts. I also don’t need to see the problem behavior to help you work through it (nor will I ever ask to see it). Since you will be the one handling your dog for the duration of training, you will be able to build the necessary skills and increase your confidence much quicker! After all, what good will it do for you and your family if you need me in the room to get that desired behavior from your dog?
What is your cancellation policy?
You must provide at least 24 hours’ notice prior to the start of a session to cancel or reschedule at no cost. If at least 24 hours’ notice is not provided, you will still be responsible for paying the full cost of the session. If at least 24 hours’ notice is not provided for a package session, it will still count as one used session.
What do I need with me before a training session?
A variety of treats (example: kibble, training treats, cheese, hotdogs, chicken, etc.)
A device with a camera that can run Zoom
A notepad to take notes or read off questions to ask me
Your dog!
