Hi, I’m Shannon Kenny!

Owner and Head Trainer of Sunrise to Sunset Dog Training

I am certified through the Karen Pryor Academy (KPA-CTP) where I graduated with distinction. This program combines hours of hands-on practice with the knowledge of the most up-to-date behavior science and modern teaching practices.

I am also certified as a Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA). This certification required a log of least 300 hours of head trainer AND teaching experience as well as a rigorous exam on the foundations of science-based training, ethology, instructional skills, and more.

I take education very seriously to ensure that I am always providing dog parents with the best dog training plans using the most up-to-date dog training methods. I am even required to log “continuing education” hours in order to keep my current certifications.

And when I am not working with dog guardians, I can be found doing fiber arts (I love crocheting) or hiking with my corgi!

About Me

Training Philosophy

How will positive reinforcement training help my dog?

  • It creates an active thinker. Your dog will be encouraged to offer new, desired behaviors. This means that they will be actively trying to figure out what they can do to earn a reward (treats, praise, toys, etc.)

  • It builds confidence. Your dog will be learning to approach new experiences with curiosity rather than fear, which leads to lower stress levels and better choices. A confident dog is more likely to exhibit good behavior, as they trust their abilities and feel empowered to make sound decisions. This can make training much more effective and lead to a well-rounded dog.

  • It improves skill retention. Creating positive associations with a desired behavior (treats for a sit when greeting strangers for example) will motivate your dog to learn and perform tasks consistently. They will have a powerful incentive to remember and repeat the exact behaviors that you want to see.

  • It’s fun, engaging mental stimulation. Dogs love to learn new skills. And the more you train your dog, the more they’ll enjoy the process.

Positive reinforcement training is a humane, enjoyable, and effective way to train your dog, leading to a well-behaved and happy companion.

Meet my dog: Elodie!

My sweet 2.5 year old Cardigan Welsh Corgi is every bit of a handful as her working breed would suggest. Sassy, wicked smart, and the best cuddler in town. You’ll likely see her from time to time as my “demo dog” to assist with exercises!
